Afgelopen zaterdag trok ik erop uit met Tom en mijn beste vriend Hessel voor The Big Draw weekend in het Rijksmuseum. En wat voor dag was dat? Een hele leuke dag vol creativiteit en lol. Want het Rijksmuseum vindt het ontzettend leuk als er bezoekers komen kijken naar alle prachtige kunstwerken, maar wat ze nog leuker vinden: als je er een potlood en een schetsblok bijpakt en lekker op de grond gaat zitten/liggen om een potje te tekenen. En dat hebben we gedaan!
En om de teken-extravaganza goed te kunnen beoordelen, kwamen we dus met zijn drieën. Tom was gek op tekenen als kind (vooral natekenen) maar heeft na de middelbare school amper nog een schetsje gemaakt. Ikzelf heb kunstacademie gedaan en heb me heel flink door al mijn modelteken- en illustratielessen geworsteld. Ik schets af en toe ideeën, maar ben al een hele tijd niet voor een serieuze tekening gaan zitten. Tenslotte heeft Hessel net als ik kunstacademie gedaan (richting illustratie) en is vervolgens (jawel) tekendocent geworden. Tekenen is net als ademen voor die jongen. Kortom, een gevarieerd trio ging op avontuur in het meest indrukwekkende museum van Nederland…
Nog voordat we het museum inliepen, was er al wat leuks te zien. Kunstenaar Leon Keer was druk bezig met een 3D straattekening. Als je ernaast stond, leek het alsof deze twee typisch Nederlandse figuurtjes onder een gigantische deegroller terecht waren gekomen. Maar bekeek je de tekening door een lens aan de zijkant, dan klopten de verhoudingen precies. Yes, yes, een hele originele tekening.
Eenmaal binnen heerste er een enorme teken-vibe. Er waren modeltekenlessen in het Atrium gaande en overal werden potloden en schetsblokjes uitgedeeld. Hessel nam zijn baantje die dag erg serieus en bij gebrek aan de standaard keycord of badge die ik meestal meekrijg als perspersoontje tekende meneer zijn eigen persbadge. Of is het meer een pers-servet…?
Tekenen kon natuurlijk overal in het museum, maar voor wie niet wist waar hij moest beginnen (wij dus) stond er in het schetsboekje een plattegrond met locaties en tekenopdrachten. En dat waren niet je standaard ’teken dit maar gewoon na’ opdrachten. Nee, nee. Hierboven luidde de opdracht bijvoorbeeld: ‘Kies een beeldje uit. Teken het in één lijn na, zonder je potlood van het papier te halen.’ Zohee, ik heb nog nooit zo geconcentreerd naar een bronzen beeldje gekeken. En als ik nu, bijna een week later mijn ogen dicht doe, kan ik de kleinste details van het beeldje me nog herinneren. Hierboven onze drie tekeningen, ik vind het grappig hoe verschillend ze zijn. Kun je raden wie welke tekening heeft gemaakt?
Eén van de allertofste activiteiten die dag vond ik toch wel meedoen aan de allerlangste panorama van Nederland. Er stond een lange tafel met een lange strook papier eroverheen. Elk kwartier werd de rol papier doorgeschoven. Een beetje als zo’n rol papier bij openbare toiletten. Als je je handen eraan afgedroogd hebt, trek je eraan en er is weer een schoon en droog stuk voor de persoon na jou. Zo werkte het ook bij de lange tekening. Hessel en ik renden er meteen naartoe, maar Tom sprak de inmiddels legendarische woorden: ‘ik kijk wel’. En dat heeft hij geweten. Hij prijkt nu op de langste panorama van Nederland, samen met Tetkees, een ridder, een jonkvrouwe en John Snow (die op zoek is naar de Nachtwacht hihi).
Maar wat ons betreft was het allerleukste moment van de dag, het uurtje dat we tekenles kregen van Siegfried Woldhek. Een schat van een man die onder andere illustreert voor NRC Handelsblad. ‘De reden waarom kinderen zoveel tekenen en volwassen bijna niet, is omdat volwassenen bang zijn dat het moet lijken. Kinderen hebben daar geen last van.’ En daarmee slaat hij de spijker op zijn kop. Woldhek raadt aan om een foto te nemen als je wil dat het lijkt en een tekening te maken als je het onderwerp echt goed wil bekijken of iets leuks wil doen. We tekenden onder andere meerdere keren een foto van Pablo Picasso na. Eerst zoals we normaal zouden doen (bovenste drie tekeningen) daarna zonder te kijken (middelste rij tekeningen) en tenslotte door alleen naar donkere en lichte vlakken en vormen te kijken(onderste rij tekeningen). Ik vind het zo mooi om te zien dat er bij ons alledrie een duidelijke vooruitgang te zien is. Alledrie tekeningen onderin zijn duidelijk met meer plezier getekend dan de bovenste drie. Het is niet alleen leuk om kunst te kijken in het Rijksmuseum, je kunt er ook heel goed mensen kijken. Zoals deze Franse jongeman die waarschijnlijk geschrokken was van het koude weer hier in Nederland en zijn coltrui en langste sokken aan had getrokken. In de koffiehoekjes van het museum kun je genieten van heerlijke latte’s en extravagante museumtoeristen. Enjoy!

Denk je nu: ‘ja lekker voor je Olga, maar dit was maar één weekend. Waar moeten wij nou naartoe met onze tekenkriebels?’ Dan heb ik goed nieuws! Vanaf nu is het namelijk elke zaterdag teken-zaterdag in het Rijksmuseum. En je hoeft zelf niks mee te nemen. In het museum krijg je namelijk gratis een schetsboekje met opdrachten (en blanco pagina’s voor wie zijn eigen weg wil gaan) en een fijn potlood. Tip: neem een kind mee, die zijn namelijk het beste voorbeeld als het om zorgeloos en vrolijk tekenen gaat. Daar kunnen wij ‘grote mensen’ nog een hoop van leren.
